The main service provided is out-patient therapy by appointment only. For emergencies or admissions it is best to consult your GP or the A&E department of the nearest hospital.
Hospitals in the area that offer inpatient care include Helderberg Clinic, Sereno Clinic and for teenagers Akeso Kenilworth Adolescent Unit, but this must be arranged by your GP who needs to contact the psychiatrist on call at the unit.
Non-voluntary admissions can only take place via regional state hospitals under the provisions of the Mental Health Care Act. The South African Police Service can assist with taking a disturbed patient to a regional hospital for psychiatric assessment by the local psychiatric team. For guidance in an instance when a relative or friend needs care but refuses admission and difficulties arise, you may consider discussing this with the psychiatry registrar on-call at Tygerberg Hospital :021 9384545 or Stikland 021 940 4400
